Monk Build Guide — Spirit Sphere Melee and Ranged Paths

What Monk Means in Ragnarok: The New World

Monk is the second job of the Acolyte branch — Novice → Acolyte → Monk → Champion. It went live on SEA with the August 6, 2026 Prelude to the Peak update, alongside Crusader. Monk plays two distinct combat styles on the same resource: melee combo chains that end in one massive burst, and ranged Throw Spirit Sphere attacks that keep you safe at distance. Both modes consume Spirit Spheres, capped at five.

The class is built around resource timing. Five spheres become a burst that kills a target, a 10-second 90% damage reduction window, an area crowd control, or a string of ranged attacks. The Job Freedom system means testing Monk costs nothing permanent — switch and reset freely.

Spirit Spheres — The Core Resource

Monk runs entirely on Spirit Spheres. The Charge skill summons one sphere; you can hold a maximum of five. Every Monk skill either spends or produces spheres, so your pool is the real cooldown on the class.

SkillSpheresEffect
Charge+1 (max 5)Summons 1 Spirit Sphere; SP 5, 1s cooldown
Throw Spirit Sphere−1450–1314% Neutral ranged physical damage
Raging Thrust−1Combo finisher; 1050–2190% damage
Root−1Blocking stance; 10–28% damage reduction
Fury−5+5/10/15% physical damage, Large monster 100%
Guillotine Fist−5 + all SPBurst finisher; ends Fury, 10s exhaustion
Mental Strength−510–90% damage reduction for 10s
Spiritual Cadence+1 per sec3s channel; restores 18–30% HP and SP per second

Rule of thumb: every sphere spent is a skill on cooldown until it regenerates. Throw Spirit Sphere has a 0.5s cooldown and can empty all five in seconds. Champion later gains Zen, which refills all five instantly.

Combo Chain — The Melee DPS Rotation

The melee combo is a timed sequence. Each follow-up must be used within 3 seconds of the previous skill.

StepSkillHitsPer hit (max)Total (max)
1Raging Trifecta Blow3533%1599%
2Raging Quadruple Blow6323%1938%
3Raging Thrust12190%2190%

Full monk combo at max level: 5727% Neutral melee damage. Champion extends it with Glacier Fist and Chain Crush Combo, bringing the full chain to roughly 10,419% before Fury, Zen, equipment, and cards. Those Champion numbers are estimates from TW/HK data and may shift on SEA.

Guillotine Fist (Asura Strike in community videos) is the dedicated burst finisher — not part of the combo chain. It requires Fury active, consumes 5 spheres and all your SP, and deals [(219 + remaining SP ÷ 10) × 100]% forced Neutral damage at max level. The bigger your SP pool, the higher the damage. It ends Fury and exhausts you for 10 seconds. In PvP it adds 10% of the target’s current HP as bonus damage.

Build 1 — Combo Monk (Solo PvE and Leveling)

The bread-and-butter build. Max the three combo skills and Fury; keep Spiritual Cadence for sustain between pulls.

  • Stats: STR first, then AGI for attack speed. Faster chains beat bigger single hits while leveling.
  • Skills: Raging Trifecta Blow 5, Raging Quadruple Blow 25, Raging Thrust 30, Fury 3, Spiritual Cadence 5, Charge 1.
  • Recommended cards: Bongun (melee PDMG, accessory), Doppelganger (ASPD, weapon), Magnolia (restore 2 SP per kill, weapon).
  • Acolyte tools that carry over: Heal, Blessing (+30 STR/INT/DEX, +20 HIT), Kyrie Eleison (shield up to 50% of max HP).

Build 2 — Sphere Monk (Ranged, Safe Farming)

Throw Spirit Sphere at 1314% per sphere with a 0.5s cooldown makes this the safest farming build. You kite instead of trading hits.

  • Stats: DEX for ranged physical power and hit.
  • Skills: Throw Spirit Sphere 30, Charge 1, Spiritual Cadence 5, Root 5 (escape), Body Relocation 1.
  • Recommended cards: Archer Skeleton (ranged PDMG, weapon), Orc Archer (ranged PDMG, accessory).
  • Weakness: five spheres empty fast. Cadence, reposition, repeat.

Build 3 — Asura Burst (MVP and PvP)

Everything feeds one skill: Guillotine Fist. SP pool is damage, so INT matters most.

  • Stats: INT for SP pool, STR for the physical multiplier, enough VIT to survive the 10-second exhaustion after casting.
  • Skills: Guillotine Fist 30, Fury 3, Charge 1, Spiritual Cadence 5, Body Relocation 1, Charged Strike (setup window).
  • Recommended cards: Willow (SP +180–300), Dracula (ATK +80, bonus while SP > 50%), Magnolia (SP per kill).
  • Rotation: Fury, 5 spheres, Charged Strike debuff, Guillotine Fist, then Spiritual Cadence and retreat during the 10s exhaustion window.

Build 4 — Defensive Tank (PvP and Siege War)

Mental Strength is the tank skill: up to 90% damage reduction for 10 seconds. Root punishes attackers with silence and root, making this build invaluable in guild warfare.

  • Stats: VIT first, then STR.
  • Skills: Mental Strength 10, Root 10, Fury 3, Body Relocation 1.
  • Champion later adds: Cursed Circle (area silence and root) and Sura Battle Spirit (additional damage reduction).

Leveling Guide — Wild Point Discipline

Every character receives 3,600 wild points per day: 600 Monster Extermination plus 3,000 Healthy Combat. Only kills inside that budget grant experience and item drops; kills beyond it return only headgear materials. Burn your points every day — Healthy Combat does not carry over.

The 110% rule: Monsters 1 to 5 levels above you give 110% experience. Same-level mobs give 100%. Anything more than a few levels below collapses to near-zero returns. Use the in-game monster index sorted by level and hunt in the bracket above yours.

BracketStrategy
1–20Story and starter zone; short side quests
20–40Field zones, party farming, monster-type matchups
40–60Dungeons, regional story, daily instances; discipline wild points in the 50s
60+Weekly content, MVP parties, event quests

Day 1 after story and dailies lands around level 34; consistent daily play reaches the high 50s before the current level cap.

Card Farming — What to Target

Each monster drops one specific card. A progress bar fills as you kill it; at 100% the card drops guaranteed. Green and blue cards fill fast — the Yoyo card went 0 to 100% in a single day. Purple cards fill slowly (Archer Skeleton: 10% per 3,600-point day). Spend wild points on monsters whose cards your build actually uses.

Frequently Asked Questions

When was Monk added to Ragnarok: The New World?
August 6, 2026, with the Prelude to the Peak update, alongside Crusader. TW/HK received both on March 26, 2026 with a free job change.
How do I become a Monk?
Reach Acolyte, then take the Monk job change NPC. SEA released with a Crusader and Monk experience event; check the job change NPC for the current requirement.
Is Monk good for farming?
It is single-target by design. Combo Monk clears one mob fast; Sphere Monk farms safely from range. It does not have the AoE burst of Mage or Gunslinger.
Is Asura Strike the same as Guillotine Fist?
Yes. Guillotine Fist is the English name; Asura Strike appears in other versions and community videos.
What stats does Monk need?
STR feeds physical damage of combos and Guillotine Fist; AGI speeds up chains; DEX powers ranged sphere damage and hit; INT grows the SP pool that Guillotine Fist converts to damage.
Is Champion available on SEA?
Not confirmed as of August 2026. Everything beyond Monk is a preview from TW/HK data.
